I was honored to be able to co-produce and participate in the inception of the Freight Project. Not only did I find the time at the Freight artistically invaluable, I discovered a real sense of community and approach to my work in a new and more dynamic way. What can you say? You're in the woods, writing, working, creating, what more could you want. It's a special place.

The Freight Project is such an amazing environment for cultivating new work. Waking up in a beautiful place to the sound of other artists creating, and spending all the time you need in creative process is really invaluable. Having several diverse projects happening around you leaves no lack of inspiration.

Getting to be a part of the Freight with Oscar and Lotti meant I got to completely eliminate that lag time between inspiration and execution.

When I think of my week in Cambridge, I feel very grateful- as a first-time playwright, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to workshop a play anywhere else. I feel as though the Freight is an amazing opportunity for folks who are experimenting in mediums slightly outside their normal sphere. It's also kind of a glorious summer camp for artists, with a "make-do" spirit. One of my favorite days was the extra day we spent stranded because of the hurricane- just getting to sit on the couch, read Devin's play, talk, and relax was wonderful, especially when a family of deer decided to come and hang out too!​

The Freight Project gave my group and I the space, freedom, and inspiration to focus fully on our work's development. Freed from the city's strains, and nurtured by bucolic splendor and many delicious meals, we worked with great joy and productivity, liberated from the city's weights and distractions. The Cambridge audience was warm and welcoming. It's a memory I'll treasure always of happily doing work I love with people I love in a beautiful, beautiful place.

I came to Rachael with an idea and a passion, and she said 'come aboard.' And from that moment, The Freight Project provided me and my partner Nathan with an immense amount of tools to jump start what felt like a mammoth project, as well as connect with new artists, and most importantly reconnect with our creative engine. In a more nuts and bolts way, our feature film Peeler would not be in the position it is today - a strong script, with an avid team, poised to be shooting this year - without the kick start that The Freight gave us in terms of figuring out our story, cementing our working relationships, and putting that idea in front of people in order to make it real, and therefore, unavoidable. My idea became a reality at The Freight, and for that I will be forever thankful.

The Freight provides artists with the invaluable opportunity to be inspired-- by the beauty of the upstate NY countryside, by the generosity of those involved, by the work of other artists taking part in the project, and by the collective support offered from everyone to everyone. It's an incredibly rewarding experience, one that will hopefully continue to grow and discover new promising actors and dancers and musicians and writers to invite into the growing family of those of us whom have been fortunate enough to participate in the past.

For me, the freight is a unique opportunity to experience a true artist's retreat.  Set aside from the daily burdens of New York City, the project helps each artist grow in a safe, yet motivated environment.  In addition, being surrounded by such  a diversity of artistic talent provides countless sources for influence, discovery, and collaboration.  It helped each of us reach out to an unknown genre and approach it with open arms (and eyes).
